The front cover of the NYT last week read: “Extinction Rebellion’s Path to Success? Arrest us Please!” the tone implies that this method is not the solution. I agree, climate activists participating in the International Rebellion, should NOT be getting arrested. But who is in the wrong here? The climate rebels or the government clampdown? In Brussels activists were attacked with pepper spray and water cannons. In New York City Jane Fonda, renowned actress has been recently arrested. In London the police is taking into custody doctors and the elderly. Yes getting arrested should not be fun, yet the smiles on the rebels being taken away is not a smile of happiness, it is a smirk of understanding. One that foresees the uselessness of mass arrests to shut up facts. The science has spoken, so who is right? The scientifically real or the politically impossible? Yes the arrests are a symbol of our corrupt leadership, and the more the better because the more innocent and correct people get taken in the less legitimate that government will be to the eyes of its populace.

Corrupt politicians and CEOs of the 100 companies responsible for over 71% of global greenhouse gas emissions should be the ones fearing the bars, not the rebels. Wait but aren’t most of those companies on that list ran by governments? Hence explaining the rebel arrests.
