On Earth Day 2022 (April 21st 2022) on the steps of Capitol Hill, an act of immense courage occurred.

Wynn Alan Bruce, a climate activist from Colorado, lit himself on fire in a climate protest against the US government.

He had been preparing for this courageous political act for one year.

Self-immolation is the act of self-sacrifice

Self-immolation is the act of self-sacrifice by setting oneself on fire and burning to death. It is typically used for political or religious reasons–mainly in Buddhism and often as a form of nonviolent protest or in acts of martyrdom. It has a centuries-long recognition as the most extreme form of protest possible by humankind.

Bruce was a buddhist, and in Buddhist tradition self-immolation is an ascetic practice that takes long hours of meditation, acceptance and ultimately can help practitioners reach enlightenment.

Wynn Alan Bruce act is not suicide

“This act is not suicide. This is a deeply fearless act of compassion to bring attention to climate crisis. We are piecing together info but he had been planning it for at least one year.”– Dr. K Kritee, Buddhist Monk that knew Wynn.

Mainstream media has barely covered the news, conveniently not mentioning the cause of Bruce’s heroic act.
