November 15 2023 – Marylebone, London

Many of us are feeling the severity of the climate crisis, having experienced the devastation of the environment this year. We feel it is important to forge relationships with those committed to protecting nature and gather people who are focused on our relationship with nature.

Benki Piyãko, an Indigenous leader and environmental activist, is in England as part of his 2023 European tour. This dinner we join his global environmental efforts, a coming together of allies, across nations and disciplines, to create relationships to strengthen international climate action.

Benki is a leader of the Ashaninka People whose territory is on the frontline of the deforestation crisis in the Amazon Rainforest. Benki has focused on reforestation initiatives for more than 20 years, and his efforts have led to more than three million trees being planted. He has earned global recognition for his groundbreaking efforts to protect and restore degraded land, as well as his tireless focus on the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the preservation of their land and heritage. This work has led Benki and his Ashaninka community Apiwtxa to win the United Nations Development Programme’s Equator Prize in 2017.

The dinner will be held at the Cavita Restaurant, with traditional Mexican cuisine. A central part of our night will be a concert by Raine Piyãko. Benki’s son Raine is a young leader from the Ashaninka People, a gifted artist and the Vice-President of the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute. He recently released his first album.
